Skylights
Option 1:
|
1) Apply primer on the upstand and extend at least 10cm onto the RubberCover EPDM
|
2) When flashing a skylight, the required length of the flashing should be equal to the length of the base of the skylight. Install the flashing on the upstand ensuring an overlap with the RubberCover field membrane of a minimum of 5cm.
|
|
3) Trim all excess of flashing on all corners
|
4) Roll the piece of Flashing
|
|
5) Repeat this on the other two sides but this time fold the flashing around the corners. Apply primer to the overlapping area first. |
6) Once all sides are flashed with flashing tape, apply primer to the four corners areas and install a corner flashing on each corner |
Option 2 - Premium Corner flashing (double flashing)
Another option for installing your skylight / rooflight is by using the EPDM to run up the sides of the upstand. This can be achieved by:
- installing the EPDM without the upstand in place, without glueing the area where the rooflight upstand will be installed. Then cut in from each corner at 45deg angles and fold back the rubber to install the upstand.
- Cutting the rubber from the upstand edge to the closest side to make the bonding of the membrane around the rooflight easier - joined after with Cover Tape.
- gluing the rubber up to the first side of the upstand and then measuring the dimensions of the rooflight onto the underside of the folded rubber. Then cutting the rubber at 45deg angles to fit the rubber over the upstand like a collar (be careful that cuts do not run on each corner when rubber is pulled to fit - a punch can help to avoid this by leaving a rounded finish at the end of a cut)
Once the rubber is around the rooflight using one of the methods above, you will be left with a V-shape area showing on each corner (as below):

This allows a smaller amount of flashing tape to be used for making each of the rooflight corners watertight. We recommend using a 6" flashing tape covered with a 12" flashing tape to make the detail more robust.
For the 6" flashing allow upstand height + 50mm + upstand overlap (if required
For the 12" flashing allow upstand height + 100mm + upstand overlap (if required
Install process:
Prime the target areas, allow to flash off and then apply flashing tape to the vertical upstand first and then once secured into the change of angle begin evenly stretching the flashing tape onto the deck. Please see our installation videos for further guidance.
