Circular Penetrations

Circular penetrations can be flashed using one of the following methods:

Pipe boot:

The prefabricated Pipe Boot is used to flash circular penetrations from 25mm to 150mm in diameter when the top part is accessible.

  • Cut the top part of the boot to a smaller diameter than that of the circular penetration. Slide the boot onto the penetration so that the flange comes freely in contact with the RubberCover EPDM membrane. Mark the edge of the flange membrane with a white crayon.
  • While keeping its top edge at the same height around the penetration, upturn the Pipe boot completely:

  • Clean the marked area on the RubberCover EPDM using Primer. Make sure you go beyond the white marks so the entire surface of the Pipe boot flange will stick to the EPDM.
  • On the Pipe boot, at the level of the future clamping ring, apply a bead of sealant around its entire circumference.
  • Once the primer is dry, pull the Pipe boot flashing down until the flange lays on the RubberCover EPDM membrane. Remove the protective backing from underneath the flange, smooth the flange with first with hand pressure, then roll it with a 2" steel roller.
  • Install the stainless steel clamping ring below the appropriate sizing ring and tighten the locking screw. It is important that the clamping ring seats onto a flattened surface of the boot.

Field-fabricated flashing with Flashing tape:

An alternative involves covering the flange with a piece of Flashing tape.

1) Mark the position of the pipe on the membrane. Apply primer to the base of the pipe and on the surrounding 100mm

2) Take a piece of Flashing tape and cut a circle with the same diameter as the boot.

3) Position the Flashing tape and remove the protective backing.

4) Roll out using a 50mm wide silicone roller.
